Meet Julia

Hi, I’m Julia!

First, a story…

Eating was not always easy for me. It was an outright battle.

I know the acute pain of turning to food to cope when other things in life felt insurmountable.

I know the shame and secrecy that accompanies feeling out of control with food and the desperate need to police my body in order to remain acceptable. And unfortunately, I fell through the cracks of our medical system and didn’t get the help I needed when I needed it most.

Enter the unexpected healing practice of yoga

At a particularly emotionally tumultuous time, and still struggling with food, I found my way into a yoga class with the mindset of channeling my energy into positive activities.

Having always been athletic, the physical movements came rather naturally to me, but it was the mindfulness and the philosophical elements that hooked my soul and kept me coming back for more.

Breath by breath, sensation by sensation, pose by pose, I cultivated the ability to listen to my body, to care for and respect it, and my disordered eating behaviors began to fall away.

Nutrition school-bound (and, yes, still with a sneaky disordered relationship to food!)

My yoga teacher training was rich and layered, and I soaked up all these eastern teachings like a sponge. I was especially drawn to Ayurveda: the traditional Indian “Science of Life.”

This piqued my interest in digestion and nutrition; I wanted to know more of the Western science behind it all (and secretly discover the RIGHT foods to eat).

Seeking a holistic nutrition program, you know, so I could save the world one kale salad at a time, I moved across the country from New York City to Seattle to attend Bastyr University.

I entered nutrition school sure that I would emerge with all the answers to what I should be eating for perfect health. My disordered thinking got a huge kick in the pants! I emerged with more questions than I had answers.

Attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors with food are paramount.

Nutrition science didn’t have the answers, but I did. Turns out they were inside me all along.

My mindset shifted away from the minutiae of what and how much of certain foods to eat or not eat and toward focusing on a healthy intuitive relationship to food.

I dove head-first into studying Intuitive Eating and Health At Every SizeⓇ. I was fortunate to attend a week-long workshop with Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor, pioneers in the HAESⓇ science and social justice movement.

My personal and professional worlds were irrevocably transformed.

As I healed my relationship to food and my body – knowing what to eat, how much, and when became much simpler. My mind was at ease. The amount of enjoyment, freedom, and new experiences available to me because of this ease has been so life-giving.

I’ve got you.

Part of what drives me in my work is to catch struggling humans who might have otherwise slipped through the cracks of our weight-centric  medical system and our pervasive diet culture.  You deserve healing, nurturance, and support right now on your journey to feel a sense of freedom with food and ease in your body.

I invite you to schedule a free discovery call to explore getting started.
